I wanted to ask if the Prelinger logo is copyrighted. It's surely trademarked but is it copyrighted? I'm asking because I want to create a template for all media of the Prelinger Archives found on Wikipedia. Thank you.

The logo with the hand against the pixellated background is indeed ours -- the words "Prelinger Collection" were added by the Internet Archive and are not official.

I have no problem with your using the logo if it identifies our material and nothing else -- I just don't want to get it confused with anything else, or used in any other context. Maybe you could tell me a bit more about how it will work?

Thanks, and all best,
Rick

I created the template, it's found at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Prelinger An example of its use is on http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Golden_Gate_Bridge_Opening_-_%281936%29.ogg We changed the logo a bit so it wouldn't be a copyvio, of course if you released the logo in the public domain we would use the original. The template is meant to be added on each image or video that uses content from here, so better recognition of the original source would be achieved.

Thanks. Delighted to see the material propagating throughout the Net.
